DavSur’s Tupad Pangako program welcomes 2nd batch of former rebels


BANSALAN, Davao del Sur, Sept. 27 (PIA) – The Tupad Pangako Program in Davao del Sur has opened anew an opportunity for the second batch of former rebels to be prepared in getting back a normal life.
 
The provincial government of Davao del Sur and the Task Force Balik Loob have welcomed on Friday (Sept. 24), 23 former rebels at the Mindanao Baptist Rural Life Center in Bansalan town, where the FRs will undergo a three-month livelihood and skills training.
 
Just like the first batch composed of 21 FRs who graduated in January this year, the new FR-trainees will learn on knowledge and practical skills on agriculture, welding, manicure, pedicure, massage, electrical, entrepreneurial, as well as on spiritual development, and among others.
 
“Maningkamot ko nga masabtan gyud nako. Nga tinud-anay na,” FR alias Tatay Dudz, 62, said as he expected to learn much from the training which will ready him to embark on livelihood undertaking, and be reintegrated back to his family and community.
 
Tatay Dudz was an organizer of people’s organization in the underground movement within the area of Davao del Sur.
 
FR alias Jojo, 18 and the youngest in the batch, said that she tried to convince her elder brother to also surrender and have the chance of getting a good and normal life.
 
“Mangita pa ko og pamaagi kung unsaon nako nga makonsidera sa akong kuya (I will find ways for my brother to consider),” Jojo said as she was really hoping to reunite with her brother again.
 
Tatay Dudz and Jojo are among the 2nd batch of FRs comprising of four lactating mothers, 17 New Peoples Army (NPA) fighters and two who worked in the underground mass organizations.
 
Davao del Sur Governor Marc Cagas along with 1002nd Infantry Brigade Commander BGen. Potenciano Camba and Bansalan Mayor Quirina Sarte, officially opened the TPP’s livelihood and skills training.
  
Cagas assured that the provincial government will continue to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police for the FRs to be reformed, rehabilitated and reintegrated.
 
He also raised the importance of the sustainability of the program.
 
Camba told the FRs that the government has been doing its best to provide the needs of those who surrendered and returned to the folds of the law.
 
The TPP is a joint initiative of the provincial LGU of Davao del Sur, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Davao del Sur, Philippine Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion and Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office (DSPPO), and the MBRLC, as the private sector partner.
 
The program will help facilitate the main streaming of former rebels as productive citizens by providing them with the necessary skills, knowledge, spiritual enlightenment and assistance to completely transform their lives.
 
The FRs will also be reoriented and reorganized on their mindset to abandon communist terrorist views, and they will have exposure to practical human development.

More NPAs surrender in DavNor

Parents urged to register children to Safe Davao QR before vax

DAVAO CITY, February 22—(PIA) A local vaccine czar urged parents to register first their children aged five to eleven to the SAFEDAVAO QR before they can go to vaccine sites for inoculation. Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, Vaccination Cluster head of the city bared the registration to the SAFEDAVAOQR is crucial so that their children will be integrated in the local vaccination system. She said that the vaccination for children now is on its second phase, with three vaccination sites namely San Roque Elementary School in Barrio Obrero, Vicente Hizon Elementary School at Barangay Sasa and the Almendras gym. “Children can be vaccinated on these sites, whether they are walk-ins provided they have registered at the SAFEDAVAOQR,” Villafuerte said.
