DAVAO CITY- The City Government of Davao and private tourism stakeholders has partnered to vaccinate the workforce of various tourism, tourism-related establishments in Davao City.
“As of now we are targeting 5,000 vaccinees from the tourism sector,” said Cherry Faye B. Al-ag, president-elect of the Davao Tourism Association (DATA) a private sector group which represents the various stakeholders of the region’s tourism industry.
Al-ag said the vaccination of the tourism workers was born from the city government’s efforts to seek the help of the private sector to fast-track the vaccination of its residents.
She said various companies in the sector has joined hands to make the vaccination program into a reality. For one, Waterfront Hotel Davao has agreed to shoulder the logistical needs of the vaccination, which includes the provision of the venue for the vaccination site.
“This morning, our vaccination site has been approved which is the Waterfront Hotel. The venue, the hotel pavilion that is a big space,” Al-ag said.
“Thankfully Waterfront has agreed to sponsor the logistics part which was needed to be raised as the counterpart of the private sector, this is their way of meaningfully celebrating their 60th anniversary in Davao City,” Al-ag said.
They are targeting last week of June and first week of July for the vaccination of tourism workers.
“There’s no definite date but there is a target week to do it now because to do all these you have several factors to consider, the venue, the availability of funds for logistics needed, the availability of the vaccines. There is a consideration too of the volunteers, the medical volunteers,” Al-ag said.

Al-ag urged workers in the tourism sector to go register and be vaccinated noting some are hesitant to get their shots.
“I understand we still are in a difficult and very challenging times the desire to recover and restart is there and one powerful way to do it is to get ourselves and our people vaccinated,” Al-ag said.
She said when the city’s tourism sector is vaccinated is bodes well for the industry’s recovery.
“When the whole Davao City tourism industry is vaccinated both our local and foreign clients, tourists and investors alike becomes more confident to visit the city again because they know their service providers are vaccinated and protected on top of our commitment to strictly observe health and safety protocols,” Al-ag said.
Those tourism workers wanting to get a vaccine are asked to email the vaccination secretariat at davaotourismvax@gmail.com or contact their industry associations and tourism sector leaders for the Google link of the registration form. (PIA/RG Alama)
