Leading design school comes to Mindanao

CITY, June 17 (PIA)- SoFA Design Institute, the first specialized design college in the country and one of the leading design schools has launched its Mindanao Admissions Office.

“To further fortify this goal of creating globally competitive Filipino creatives and designers and because we are aware of the immense creativity of the Mindanoans, it is with pride that I launch the Institute’s first admissions office in the Mindanao region,” Amina Aranas Alunan, SoFA Design Institute co-founder and president said during the virtual launch held today (June 17).

The opening of the Mindanao Admissions Office of the SoFA Design Institute was made possible with remote learning which has allowed the Institute to open its doors to creative talents from all over the country.
“Mindanaoans may now inquire and gain access to our extensive range of designer creative programs in interior design, fashion and the arts,” Alunan said



Virtual launch of SoFA Design Institute Mindanao Admissions Office

Partnering with SoFA Design Institute for its Mindanao Admissions Office is a team led by the mother and daughter of tandem Mary Ann Montemayor and Marga Montemayor Nograles.

“Today we are giving birth to SoFA Design Institute very first satellite office to champion local design education thru digitalization,” said Montemayor, the CEO of Villa Margarita Group and current Honorary Consul of Hungary in Mindanao.

She said they are optimistic that many Mindanaoans can experience the SoFA method that has revolutionized design education in the country focusing on talent nurturing through self discovery.

“The time is right for Mindanao, despite the pandemic I truly believe that creativity knows no virus and creativity found its way to Mindanao. Timing is everything and the timing is now the most difficult but the most significant of all time,” Mary Ann “Baby” Montemayor said of the opportunity provided by digitization and remote learning.

SoFA Design Institute offers Senior High School Grade 11 and 12 Arts and Design Track, For Interior Design it offers Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Basic Interior Design Lecture Series, Advance Interior Design Lecture Series, Interior Design Short Courses.

For those wanting to go into fashion creative the institute offers Bacheor of Arts in Fashion Design and Marketing, Two-year program on Fashion Design and Marketing, Fashion Design 1 year program, Fashion Marketing 1 year program, Digital Fashion Marketing 1 year program plus short courses and certificate programs on fashion.

It also offers workshops on basic interior design, home decorating and artisan perfumery, indoor gardening and e-commerce for creative among many other workshops on different creative aspects.



“My mom, Baby and I jumped into this project eagerly and instantly because we truly believe there is much raw talent in Mindanao that is waiting to be enhanced and discovered,” Marga Nograles recalls the beginning of their partnership with the Institute.

Mindanaoans thru SoFA can now have easy access to Instituto Marangoni in Milan, a European design school that has branched out to London, Paris and Shanghai.

Nograles said that it is important for the young people to have a creative background as in the future with increasing reliance on robotics they must learn things which robots cannot do such as art, design, business of design and music.

DOH XI hires more nurses, doctors

DAVAO CITY, September 6 (PIA) – The Department of Health XI bared its emergency hiring for nurses and doctors following the need to augment the personnel requirement of COVID19 hospitals from all over the region. The head of the DOH XI Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Dr. Rachel Pasion, in today’s DOH Virtual Presser reported that in Davao City alone combining both the COVID19 hospitals and the private hospitals have utilized 674 COVID19 beds out of the 830 beds or 79.4 utilization rate. This brings the region’s critical care utilization at a high risk level. The Southern Philippine Medical Center, in the past few days, released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for COVID19. Mati City releases new tricycle fare guidelines

DAVAO ORIENTAL, Apr. 6 (PIA) -- The City Government of Mati has issued a new set of tricycle fare guidelines due to the increase in gasoline prices over the past weeks.   Under the City Ordinance No. 527 Series of 2022 or the "Ordinance Imposing the Regulation of Fare and Motorized  Tricycle-for-Hire in the City of Mati," the minimum fares are peg on the prevailing fuel prices. If the gasoline prices would hover at P40.00 to P49.99 per liter the minimum fare would be pegged at P9.00. If fuel prices are at P50.00 to P69.99/liter, minimum fare would be at P12.00 The current minimum fare is now P14.00 as the price of gasoline is between P70.00 to P89.99 per liter.   If the gasoline increase would go from P90.00 to P99.00/liter, the minimum fare will be P15.00. The price of gasoline is not the only indicator of the passenger's fare.
