DOH-XI urges LGUs to add more quarantine sites as surge continues

DAVAO CITY, June 29 (PIA) – Department of Health- XI Regional Director Dr. Annabelle Yumang urged local government units to increase quarantine sites, temporary treatment and monitoring facilities, and isolation areas as COVID19 cases continue to rise in the region.

This she bared in the weekly DOH virtual presser following such recommendation raised to the Regional Task Force on COVID19.

“We also recommended for the LGUs to strengthen contact tracing. Paspason ang tracing nga within 24 hours mamahimo na ang contact tracing sa usa ka nagpositive para mahatagan dayon ug aksyon ug ma-isolate dayon ang nag positive (We need to speed up the tracing such that within 24 hours, we can immediately do contact tracing on the confirmed positive so we can give appropriate action and isolate that person.),” Dr. Yumang added.

DOH data as of June 27 showed that the region now has 40,959 total number of cases; 9,870 are active or admitted; 29,715 are declared recovered; while 1,374 are the recorded deaths.

Majority or 92.7 percent of the active cases are asymptomatic; 7 percent are mild cases; 1.4 percent are severe cases; while only 0.1 percent are critical.

Bulk of the active cases comes from Davao City with 5,285; Davao del Norte has 2,286 active cases; Davao del Sur has 990 active cases; Davao de Oro has 833 active cases; Davao Oriental has 340 cases; while Davao Occidental has 136 cases.

The top ten areas with the most number of cases are Tagum City in Davao del Norte; Digos City in Davao del Sur; and Buhangin District, Talomo North, Talomo Central, Talomo South, Bunawan District, Sasa District, District B, and Agdao District in Davao City.

The DOH XI also reported continued maximized utilization of designated COVID19 beds. As of June 26, 94.4 percent of the ICU beds have been occupied. Only 10 beds are available for patients needing critical care. Out of the 710 total isolation beds in the region, only 254 are available; of the 665 ward beds only 139 are available; while out of the 54 mechanical ventilators only 16 are available.

In the latest Community Quarantine Category announced by the IATF Monday night, the entire Davao Region is recommended to be under Moderate Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from July 1 to 15.

Yumang admitted in the interview that many local government units in Davao Region have already submitted their request to elevate their quarantine status following the surge of cases in their locality.

Activities prohibited under MECQ would include meetings, conferences, exhibitions; personal care services; outdoor tourist attractions; specialized markets of the DOT; indoor dining; while 50 percent of the area capacity is allowed for outdoor dining. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)

LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. The Darong Import Facility has a rated capacity of 67-million liters of petroleum products.   The import facility will help and promote business continuity and stability in the area by providing needed fuel resources for mobility during storms, floods and other calamities.
