Davao City readies “Bakuna by the Sea”

DAVAO CITY, July 24 (PIA)- Imagine getting yourself vaccinated amidst the sight of swaying coconut palms and feeling the soothing caress of sea breeze blowing from the Davao Gulf. You are also listening to relaxing piped-in bossa nova music while waiters on the side are ready to serve refreshments.

This concept of a vaccination experience is being realized as the City Government of Davao together with the private sector is readying a seaside vaccination site dubbed as “Bakuna by the Sea” (Vaccination by the Sea) and is intended to serve the tourism workers in Davao City.

“Nag-partner ang private sector plus ang city government of Davao in order to establish the vaccination program for the tourism sector,” Davao City Tourism Operations Office head Generose Tecson said describing the joint effort which has led to a tropical beachside resort themed vaccination site.

The vaccination site is the Grand Pavilion of the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao. A historical landmark in the city, Waterfront Insular Hotel is known for its seaside tropical garden where the Pavilion is situated.

According to Tecson, the hotel is sponsoring the private sector counterpart of the vaccination as a meaningful way of celebrating its 60th anniversary.

“I am very very happen that Waterfront Davao on its 60th anniversary, they volunteered to sponsor the logistics for this activity. This is really private sector led,” Tecson said.

The vaccination program will start on June 30. It aims to vaccinate around initially 7,000 workers in the tourism industry including those working in allied establishments.

Tecson said the vaccination by the sea is a unique setup where event organizers have set up the theme since the site is located at the beachside.

The CTOO OIC said everyone have contributed from the event organizers, the security sector including hotels and restaurants which have pledged to provide food, water and refreshment drinks.

She said organizers and the private sector donors wanted to go further with live music, free massage and foot spa however due to the City under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine they have to let go of these amenities.

The city tourism chief is very happy with the bayanihan spirit displayed by Dabawenyos.

“This vaccination program goes to show that in Davao City, we have a beautiful working relationship between the private sector and the city government,” Tecson said.
